The brainchild of many talented individuals, it soars high above the streets of Thailand’s vibrant and busy capital on the 76th floor of King Power Mahanakhon, Thailand’s newest and tallest dining landmark. And with the opening of Mahanakhon Bangkok Skybar the iconic building now offers a true escape from the hustle and bustle of the city down below. Located atop of one of the tallest buildings in South East Asia it has a capacity of 232 seats, including 86 indoor dining spaces. The vision from the beginning was to create an inviting space for people to stay and revisit frequently, and not just simply become a one-time destination.
Executive Chef, Mahanakhon Bangkok Skybar
Joshua Cameron is the Executive Chef of Mahanakhon Bangkok Skybar. At the age of 12, he decided to passionately pursue his interest in cuisine. With over 20 years of experience, Chef Josh heads all culinary aspects of Thailand’s highest restaurant and bar, leading a talented team who bring to life his Western and Asian signature creations.
Previously based in New York’s world-renowned Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park (also voted Best Restaurant in the World by San Pellegrino 2017), the well-travelled US native finds culinary inspiration from his travels abroad. In addition to his time in New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles, he travelled extensively in Europe and spent 18 months in Spain, exploring and embracing various culinary styles and flavours.
Signature dishes such as “Uni Panna Cotta” combine Japanese elements with French techniques, while Spanish influence is reflected in items such as “Iberico Ham” and “Croquetas”. His love of modern American cuisine is also found in the “Whole-roasted Chicken” and “Mahanakhon Burger”, two dishes which deceivingly sound simple yet reveal a sophisticated twist. Over the past decade, Joshua has played roles in New York’s culinary icons, including Michelin-starred venues Aska and Betony, and has hosted private events for some of America’s highest profile individuals. Joshua is a graduate of the iconic Culinary Institute of America.
About the design
Tristan Auer is a prevailing force in the interior design world who came of age under icons Christian Liaigre and Philippe Starck. Recognized as one of the world’s leading designers, Tristan is an entrepreneurial interior architect who founded his own studio in 2002, which specializes in ultra-high-end residences, boutique hotels and retail, as well as bespoke furniture design. A couturier, Tristan’s signature panache can be found across the globe. As Principal of Wilson Associates’ Paris Atelier, he oversees the firm’s “hautest” design projects across Europe. His most recent projects include Saint Cloud Residence, a private villa in an exclusive Parisian suburb, the historic Carlton Hotel Cannes, and the iconic Hotel Scribe Paris Opera Sofitel.
This team, along with all their esteemed colleagues, set out not to create a mere dining outlet on top of a tall building, but rather a whole experience that is unmatched in Bangkok, encompassing a welcoming atmosphere paired with luscious food suitable for anyone and everyone, and beverages that cater to the individual tastes of all guests. Quite simply, Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar was envisioned as a place to go to not just for a one-off, must-try, tick the box experience, but rather a comfortable place to keep coming back to time and time again.
